VEXRobotics is a program designed to teach students about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through hands-on robotics projects. Over the years, the program has grown in popularity, and regional VEX Robotics teams are now a common sight across the world. In this article, we will explore the story of a regional VEX Robotics team that started with three kids and evolved into a club run by their parents.

In2018, a few kids in the Albury/Wodonga region of Australia joined the VEX Robotics program. The Club has evolved over the last few years from competing in local tournaments, to Virtual World Championships and in 2023taking our the “AMAZE” award at the Nationals Robotics Competition. This has secured them a spot at the Vex Robotics World Championship – Dallas Texas USA where they will compete against teams from 35 different countries.. This year, a team called "Perseverance" will be representing Australia and the region at VEX Worlds in Dallas, Texas.

VEXRobotics is a program that challenges students to design, build, and program robots to compete in various challenges. Students work together in teams to solve complex problems, develop critical thinking skills, and learn valuable STEM concepts. The program has become a global phenomenon, with competitions held in over 50 countries.

The Border Robotics Club

Perseverance is a VEX Robotics team that has evolved from the introduction to VexIQ at primary school. As they grew older and their friendships grew stronger, their parents took over the team and began the "Border Robotics Club" to continue as a formidable team. After a remote World Championship competition in 2022 where they ranked 5th in the division, They took on the National Championships in Sydney last December with a rank of 3rd in the Middle Division in Australia, an dare now headed to Dallas, Texas, to proudly represent Australia and the region . The team's name is inspired by the Mars Rover, and their robot is called "Ingenuity," paying homage to the first-ever powered flight on Mars.

Community Outreach

The Border Robotics Club has been promoting VEX Robotics in their region through pop-up demonstrations and BBQs. These efforts have been critical in encouraging more kids to seek out the opportunities the program can offer and develop their STEM skills. Community involvement is vital in promoting STEM education and robotics programs, and we encourage everyone to support these initiatives.

The Border Robotics Club's journey from three kids to a formidable team is a testament to the power of VEX Robotics in promoting STEM education. As they head to the 2023 VEX Worlds in Dallas, Texas, we wish them all the best and encourage every one to support VEX Robotics programs in their communities.

Supporting the Team

Traveling to the VEX Worlds is an expensive affair, and the team needs sponsorship to cover their expenses. Renea is supporting this event, but the team needs more sponsors. We encourage readers to support the team if they are able, as it will help promote STEM education in their region and beyond. A once in a lifetime adventure for 3x 14-yrold regional boys.

We also invite you to follow Border Robotics Club's journey and cheer them on as they take on the best teams from around the world and show off their skills in robotics.

But they need your help to make it to Texas. Your donation can help cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and equipment needed to compete at the highest level. Join us in cheering on these young innovators and supporting their dreams.

If you'd like to get in touch with the Border Robotics Club to learn more about their journey or offer your support, please contact Renea Maskell, their team coordinator, at renea.m@rjsanderson.com.au. Or you may reach her at 0499 884 746.
